I need to take a sleep aid/pain reliever to fall asleep in a few days. I was wondering if tylenol pm works quickly? Like long will I take to fall asleep after taking it? And how long does it last. Cause I will need to wake up early and go to sleep early. And if it doesnt work will it make me drowsy in the morning?

  1.          I don't like Tylenol PM. Use a thing called Melatonin. It's in a puple bottle and i get it at Fred Meyer. It's actually a melatonin supplement. Melatonin is a chemical your body distributes naturaly, and this pill justs makes more.

  2. It ought to take between 1/2 hour to an hour to take effect.

Try taking it about 10 PM, then you should have no trouble with grogginess in the AM.

If it doesn't work, it won't make you groggy, you may just be groggy from not sleeping.

After I had surgery once, I found the Extra Strength Tylenol Rapid Release Gelcaps worked well for pain & I had no trouble sleeping.  It worked better than the pain pills the MD gave me.

    There is also Excedrin PM

    Good luck

  3. It typically takes about 30-45 minutes to kick in, but the best thing to do would be to take the pills then read for a few minutes then turn out the light before you start getting tired. One of the problems with diphenhydramine (the PM in Tylenol PM) and one of the reasons why it isn't often used as a long-term sleep aid is that it does have a very long half-life relative to prescription sleep aids (eg Ambiem). Assuming you wake up 8-9 hours after you take it, half of it will still be in your system. This can cause some grogginess in the morning. Not so much that you can't get over it, but it is annoying.
