I'm leaving for T&T on Friday. I know the eastern side of Tobago has no ATM machines so I'm wondering if most places will accept U.S. dollars. Anyone know? Thanks!!

  1. Yes they do - they may not pay you the daily rate for it but make sure yuh get at least $6 tt for $1 US

  2. man dey taking sea shells and all .... of course they will take your USD, welcome in advance and remember to have ah truck load of fun

  3. I found this piece of information on a website. This is very good information. Though many foreign currencies are widely accepted in Tobago it is always good to have a few alternatives. Yuh know...jus' in case. Hope this helps:

"If you wish to draw cash against a credit/debit card at the bank counter, make sure you take your passport for identification. Travellers cheques in British Pounds Sterling, U.S. dollars, Canadian dollars and Euros are widely accepted and probably the most all-round convenient means of payment. Large banks will offer the best exchange rates. Avoid black marketers at all cost and be warned that changing them at your hotel is probably likely to cost you dearly.

My normal suggestion to visitors is to arrange for around £200 (US$350) of T&T currency from your bank at home. If you normally pay the balance on your credit card off in full monthly and the card does not charge a daily interest rate on cash withdrawals abroad, then you can't beat the convenience of this for extra cash while you are away. If this doesn't apply, then travellers cheques in your local currency (Sterling, Euros, US or Canadian dollars) are probably the best bet."

  4. Yes they will, but you will likely be better off exchanging your US for TT at a bank when you get there. Reason being that the vendors can basically charge anything they want regardless of the exchange rate of the day, but when you have TT already in hand, there is more stability there. Remember that the rate should be roughly $1 US: $6TT.

Have lots of fun, take loads of pictures and tell us how it was when you get back!

  5. Yes, most places will, but you should try to exchange your USD for TTD at a bank, cuz ull get a better exchange rate.

Oh yea, I forget to add, the rate is between 1 USD=6.00-6.32 TTD

  6. i dont know but im half trinidadian lol
