  1. that depends on your definition of safe.

if you are fine with eating products laden with chemicals and hormones, knock yourself out.

you're better off buying organic, or better yet....not buying it at all.

even when i was an omni i didn't trust the regulation of the meat industry....our government accepts too much money from them to be impartial.

  2. There are always incidents here and there but overall yes, it's fine....just remember to cook any ground meat thoroughly.

  3. [madcowrant]

Don't eat another bite, it is NOT safe.  There are tiny demons... worse, vampire demons... that live inside the cords of flesh waiting to destroy you from the inside out.  First they attack your pinky toes... the most important and vulnerable part of your body.  Have you seen the purple commercials... it will all be explained.  How far must you take this!?!  I have seen the light... ketchup pops when it tastes green... warriors... COME OUT AND PLAAAAAAAAY!  Badger, badger, badger, badger, MUSHROOM, MUSHROOM.... SNAKE... it's a SNAKE!  I like peanut butter... I like toast and jam... so don't do it... I beg of you.... SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I think that grass fed, locally raised and humanely treated beef from smaller farms is the best & is more than safe to eat.

I am NOT a veg*n & I would never eat standard American beef.  Is it safe?  The government says it is, but I'm not interested in taking their word for it.

  5. what is safe? is there such a thing or do we just live in an insatiable trail of fear mongering and sensationalism?

anyway, you can define safe in anyway you want- and I would say that it is "safe" (lets say that anything less dangerous than driving or riding in a car is safe)- but I would also say that it is probably the most suspect beef in the world. you know those pictures of herds of boney looking cattle from some far away third world country? it turns out that is probably a good thing and american beef is grotesque and unnatural.

  6. No

  7. Probably not.

Think of all the hormones & steroids that get pumped into them!

  8. No it's not.  US beef is one of the dirtiest, most risky things to eat in the world.

Only 1% of all cattle are tested for Mad Cow disease.   This means that many are getting into the food supply.  When a cow is slaughtered and the worker starts to dismember the animal, sometimes the intestines are cut which dump the contents of their bowels into the rest of its body.

Up to 50% of all packaged beef is contaminated with E. Coli so make sure you cook it well if you do eat it.

And then, there are the hormones and antibiotics.

Antibiotics are used because the animals live in filthy, wretched conditions that are prone to disease.  The antibiotics help stave off infections and disease.  Do you know why antibiotics are becoming less effective in humans?  Just look toward your meat supply.  Every time you ingest cow flesh you are taking in these drugs as well which cause a person to become immune to antibiotics that a doctor may prescribe to you.

Hormones are used to fatten and bulk up an animal.  The meat companies use hormones because more weight on an animal means more money in the pocket.  Cattle sometimes become the size of monsters and the udders of dairy cows become so enlarged that they start to become infected.  There are even cases of cows having their udders dragging on the ground because they've become so large from hormones or chemicals that cause an hormonal effect.

In short, if you cook it properly, it is mostly safe in the short term.  In the long term, no, it's not safe as the antibiotic and hormonal agents build up in the human body and cause all sorts of problems.

  9. Yes, especialy if you raise it and butcher it yourself.Slaughter houses sometimes use "downer cows" and slay stressed out animals(this makes the meat tougher than normal). Also noone ever knows what gos into hamburger or sausages

  10. Here's the thing. The 'free range' cattle are supposedly not given any 'chemicals' that would taint the 'natural' meat product. However with all the different disease and bacteria that seem also to be 'free range' I don't think I would want to chance eating the 'natural beef'. Venison on the other hand is meat that is suppose to be 'free range' and I think that they have the immune system to cope with the natural diseases, unlike the domestic beef.

So if I am going to eat 'natural' I'll take venison, if I am going to eat beef, I want the ones that have been pen feed and innoculated.

Or you can eat lettuce that has been urinated on...take your pick.

  11. yes

  12. WEll it depends where it is bought from.

  13. Well, some people above have said "yes", some "no", so I'll give you some facts and  you make your own decisions.....

These are just my notes on hormones, I think thay are enough to decide if meat is safe or not, i won't bother with my notes of residual antibiotics, parasitic issues or mechanical recovery.

Hormones are not used "neat" like they used to be in the 60's-90's.

They DO use growth products based on hormones, but many of these are synthesized and not pure hormones like they used in the 60's-90's.

Cattle are also fed lots of protien enriched foods. The protien being made from other cattle and in many ways that should be of as much concern as hormones.

Whether you think its right to give a cow ANYTHING artificial is another question.

Growth hormones were banned in some countries, particularly in Europe, they have been re-introduced in modified forms using hormones as a basis for synthesised products. Many argue they are no longer hormones at this point.

In the USA and some parts of Australiasia they use recombinant bovine somatotropin. Its brand name is POSILAC® and its made by Monsanto. This increases milk yield and beef growth. This is a synthetic hormone. Its banned in the EU since 1988

The main mechanism these hormones work is by re-directing dietry nutrients from peripheral body tissue to mammary glands. effectively, they are slowly killing the cow.

Milk yield increases by 15% just by injection of POSILAC®

The cattle increases risk of early baron via Ketosis and therefore killed in early life.

In beef, Hormone implants, including natural hormones oestradiol 17β, testosterone and progesterone, and artificial analogues trenbolone and zeranol are used

They work by stimulating the pituitary gland to release somatotrophin.

All these are banned in the EU because reseach shows there are endocronologically active residues in the meat....eg hormones

The current thinking ( last decision was in Oct 2007 ) is that there is no plans to allow any of these products in Europe in the foreseable future.

If people think all that doesn't affect the meat, i don't know what else to say !

This may seen like I've swallowed a science book - but I think the truth is far more scary than scaremongering !

All the above comes from my copy of the 2007 EU research into reducing greenhouse gases. One team was asked to look at using hormones to increase yield in Europe - the hormone route was rejected because of the concerns of residue hormones. Is an EU paper - no propaganda.

if you live in the USA, tuck in !!

  14. i dont think so .

i watched a video on goveg.com and they said that the USDA approves cows with cancerous legions to be certified pure .

so no i dont think its safe to eat at all .

  15. It depends on how clean the people are that handle it!
