  1. green tea usually is vegan.

I personally drink Clipper's Organic, Fairtrade white tea. It's still good for controlling weight, and also has more antioxidants than green tea.

  2. If you buy a pure loose tea that has not been processed, then is will be vegan as the only thing there will be the leaves. Avoid tea bags as they have been processed and could easily contain animal derived products which may be there in residual quantities. I like the products from In Nature (www.innteas.com) , their baby t-bud gift set is what I usually go for as you get different varieties, including Oolong which is reputed to be better as a slimming tea. These teas are not cheap but they are pure, organic and loose (I quite like watching the leaves unfurl and float around in my cup), but they are no more expensive than decent coffee I guess.

I must confess that I have not noticed any slimming effect when drinking Green or Oolong tea (I generally have 2-4 cups a day) but I guess that you need to use it as part of a 'diet' to make it effective. I have looked at various reports about the slimming effect and the findings are generally inconclusive or use a sample size that is meaningless. Unfortunately, the press then hype the slimming properties and before you know it, everyone thinks it is the most effective way to lose weight. Me, I like the diet suggested by Scottish comedian Billy Connolly - move more, eat less - that usually works for me when I have a few extra pounds to shed!!
