  1. Yes, because what we have is broken and beyond repair.

  2. It's a possible solution but many things must come into play for it to work. Taxes will have to be raised very high in order to offset costs and doctor salaries. The private health care industry will have a huge fit to go along with the very strong lobbying groups they have to oppose any form of universal healthcare system. The problem today is that healthcare is relatively expensive and most people need to have good jobs that offer healthcare coverage. Those who don't are left without healthcare and must use government assisted health programs (if they can get that). Unfortunately the healthcare system in our country is also a business with huge corporations running both the drug and insurance industries. For universal healthcare to work, everyone needs to contribute and certain people will have to cut some losses whether that's capital gains or paying more taxes. Do I see Universal Healthcare happening in the United States? Not for a really long time, until we start caring for people as oppose to fattening our wallets, maybe it could happen.

  3. Yes! I'll quite happily swap my HSA payments for an increase in taxes so that a 10 minute doctor appointment doesn't cost $250.

Republicans will bleat that government can't be trusted, yet it's government that has its finger of the button of thousands of nuclear warheads.

  4. yes

  5. I don't trust the free market solution for health care, and I don't trust the government running the program either.

I think there needs to be a hybrid.  Government controls on prices so that the free market can provide insurance that is affordable to everyone, and caps on costs for catastrophic care.  One car accident or cancer diagnosis can plunge a family into bankruptcy, even with insurance.  We need to contain costs because the insurance companies have proven that they can't.
