  1. Quite nice - expensive in parts - schools are a bit hit and miss - it is a mix of young and old with a fairly low crime rate.

Houses are a mix of old and new - transport is a bit, well, c**p to be honest - some local links but that is about it  if you need to go further afield - you will need a car

  2. only driven through it but it always looked nice to me

  3. I went to boarding school in Oakham for 5 years; its a nice little market town, not the most exciting place in the UK, but a very nice so just depends what you are looking for. Loved the school too, had a great time there! There are a number of decent schools round the area (Uppingham & Oundle are both meant to be pretty good too), so you should have a good range to pick from!

My Nan has lived near that area for most of my life too & I like it up there - it's varied enough in terms of the types of towns & villages to have somewhere to suit people of any age (young kids, adults, elderly) to be honest. I think most of the housing in the area is fairly modern too, but there are enough historical buildings/sites around to keep it interesting!

If you do move there, check out Rutland Water too - one of my favorite places to visit as a little kid, but also great for older children / adults into their watersports...
