I have a friend there that has invited me over but I have NO idea what sort of a country Uruguay is. Is it really poor and depressed or like a "happy little country". I have been to Argentina, is it similar?

  1. It's probably the most expensive country and technologically developed in South America. Just go to the upscale Punta del Este, or capital city Montevideo, but like most major cities watch where you walk at night if you're a tourist.

  2. yeah its kinda like Argentina

its not poor and depressed but its not rich and a happy country it is just normal

you should really go i think you would like it tell your friend to take you to Punta del Este i know you will love it and there is many more good places

just stay away from El Barrio Borro =]

  3. Uruguay is a pleasant small country quite similar in culture and living standards to its neighbor Argentina, hardly surprising since Buquebus crosses the Rio de la Plata between Buenos Aires and Colonia in about 1 1/2 hours. Recent economic troubles have hurt Uruguay, but it enjoys a reasonably high standard of living with mostly decent housing, good food, and reasonable transportation (has great buses for getting around). Montevideo is a great city in which to play tourist for a few days; Punta del Este is a world famous beach resort; excellent wines and good meat and produce are grown by Uruguayan farms; in short a fine country to visit.
