Is VENICE quite beautiful? how far is it from ROME?

and what are ur favorite sites to see in Rome?

where's a good place to stay that's beautiful and a FANTASTIC deal in Venice, as well as Rome? :o)

It's about 6 hours from Rome, depending on traffic. The real problem is that there are MANY places along the way that you should see. :) Florence is a good example of this.

Venice is amazing---other than Sorrento, it's my favorite place in the country. Rome I found to be too city-like. Venice is like stepping back a few hundred years in time.

Rome - go see all the big sites, and definitely the whole Vatican. Sistine Chapel is smaller than I thought, but no less amazing for that. Trevi, Spanish Steps, everything!

I can't remember the name of the place we stayed in Venice last----it was a Lido hotel---small, with a beautiful courtyard.

People seem to either love Venice or hate it.  I think it is magical.  Venice can be a little pricey.  The last time I was there we stayed at the Hotel Concordia and had a room that actually overlooked San Marco.  It wasn't cheap, but a good splurge.  

I would take the train from Rome to Venice.  It's about a 5 hour train ride.  Check www.trenitalia.com for schedules and rates.  

My favorite places in Rome are the Colosseum and forum, the Pantheon, Nero's Golden House (Domus Aurea) and St. Peter's.  You have to stop by Trevi and the Spanish Steps.  Piazza Navona at night and Campo dei Fiori for the morning market.  I like Albergo del Senato and Albergo Cesari.  Great locations.   Unfortunately, they are not inexpensive.



There are lots of hotel booking sites for both Rome and Venice.  Check them and and read reviews by travelers.
