  1. I don't quite see your point. It is a special win: it shows England's fighting qualities. They looked dead and buried after their first innings, where they narrowly avoided the follow-on thanks to Stuart Broad's knock. New Zealand at that stage were very much in the ascendancy, and were firm favourites to seal an emphatic win.

Then enter Monty into the fray. Remarkably for a spinner, he has a far superior record in England than overseas. He turned in an, if not match-winning, certainly match turning spell. Shooting New Zealand out for 114 gave confidence to England, that they could fight their way back into the game.

The batsmen in the second innings then delivered the goods.  We hear a lot about 'batting as a unit'. This was a consumate example of doing just that.

So no, Vaughan is rightly praising his team. He can now use this as an example the next time things get tough. Starting to play like Australia: a match is never lost: whatever the situation.

  2. It sure was a special event; It was the highest successful run chase at the Old Trafford and had Strauss not played the gem of an innings, England would stutter. The odds went against Vettori or he'd have made it quite difficult for England.

  3. England are glad they managed to fight back against New Zealand who are a weak team this team beat England in one test match earlier in New Zealand the fact that they had to fight back against New Zealand shows they themselves are not a very good team to get excited with one win look at the facts not one batsmen in the New Zealand lineup averages even 40 compared to englands all mighty line up who all average over 40 so england should be relived not excited

  4. Let's face it mate, it ain't often England stand on the winner's podium! Give Vaughan a break, he has a right to feel elated.

  5. In my view this wasn't exactly a special win.

"We looked dead and buried until a superb spell from Monty and the knock from Andrew Strauss," said Vaughan.

That statement is absolutly correct and that's my point.

Two players brought this win, for me it wasn't a team win, which for me doesn't make this win 'special'.

England's spirit is quite poor, they need to be able to be positive even when the lights turn off on them. They need to back up what they say.

...but a win is still a win...Well Done England.
