If not, what is the best way to get around? I am staying in a hotel that is located right next to Piazza San Marco if that helps at all. Any ideas would be great. Thank you! =0)

  1. yes - definitely walk around.  it's really beautiful there and you'll be staying in the most popular part of the city.  if you have to go far, you can always take a water taxi.

    have fun!

  2. Def. take the water taxis. It's cheap, pretty quick, and usually very entertaining! Some good views too as you are coming up on San. Marco, etc. Each island you can walk. Bring a map, but don't rely on it. Expect to get lost, and be ok with it! You find some of the best places that way. You will have to take the train and then water taxis. Gondolas are for tourists, they aren't reallya method of transportation. Just don't fall in the canals! They are very polluted!

  3. Yes its very quick to get around.  Use the "bus" boats to get around if you have had enough of walking, they can go all aorund the city and you get great views (don't bother going on the gondola's save your money for other things).

I was also suggest getting a good map too, but if you keep walking you will eventually hit something you will recognise.

  4. Yes its all walking except if you go on the water on a gondola, but its expensive, over £15 or $30 dollars for half an hour

  5. I found Venice very easy to walk around, except that you can get lost as the streets wander into each other and there are a lot of dead ends when the streets turn into the sea!

But it is fairly flat, the walking is easy, just get a good map! In fact, it is one of the best places to walk around, every corner is a new scene of beauty and interest.

Hope you have a wonderful visit :-)

  6. If u are staying close to San Marco, you don't need to worry about anything. It's a small island, you can walk to everywhere. Gondolo is more for pleasure than transportation.
