Question:

Is Verizon giving a false sense of security?

Why does Verizon FiOS use the last 10 digits of the MAC address for the default WEP key? It seems like they’re providing a false sense of security…

I changed it to WPA-PSK which works fine but it “warns” that I should use WEP and shows up in status as "Secure" but then "WEP Disabled" in red. I’d expect it to say WPA-PSK enabled instead...

  1. Havnt used Fios yet, but im guessing its just verizon trying to keep things simple for their techs.  WPA is superior but having a WEP key that any tech support rep can figure out might save them time?  Just a guess.
