  1. No, Viagra is not a narcotic. It was originally intended for the treatment of hypertension. In the clinical trials it was shown to be relatively ineffective in lowering blood pressure, but the subjects reported an unusual side effect - enhanced penile erection upon stimulation. Viagra works by increasing the effectiveness of nitric oxide, a naturally occurring compound that is essential in achieving and maintaining an erection. Viagra prevents the breakdown of nitric oxide thus prolonging erections. It does not produce an erection without stimulation.

  6. no, by definition a narcotic is a substance that produces analgesic effects, such as morphine. the word narcotic mainly due to the DEA has been extended to many other drugs that do not fit this definition, such as cocaine.
