Is Victorian Australian Rules football on the slide?

Look at the Under 18 competition - WA flogged the Vics.

Look at the AFL - Geelong won it last year, the first Vic based team for ages - & they only did so because of their interstate recruits.

I think Vic teams will start folding - starting off with the Kangaroos in the very near future.

  1. come on mate dont be so hard on ya self, Western Australia has just taken over in being the best footy state in Australia, just take the past draft picks for example.

    GO THE BLACK SWAN!!!!

  2. Definitely not. The Victorian sides did pretty well last year and has set back the 'slide' they may have been on back a few years. Many teams are posting record numbers of memberships for the same time in previous years, showing that the fans are getting back behind the Victorian teams.

If most of the Victorians teams do well (4-5 in the top 8) then it will be the interstate sides that will have to start to worry.

The Under-18 competition means nothing in the grand scheme of things. You may be forgetting that the mid last year a side of the VFL played a side of the WAFL. The VFL side come out on top to the margin of 119 points in what was a record breaking win.

The Victorian teams will continue to stick around for at least the next 20 years, and only a small handful of teams are possibly not going to make it, the Kangaroos being the most likely team.

So long as there's footy the passion in the hearts of every Victorian supporter will keep it going, and that makes for a much sustainable future than any interstate team (particular those in NRL dominated states) can produce.

  3. Yes. I think it has been doing so for several years now.

The AFL has recognised the fact - the supporters of some Melbourne based teams continue to bury their head in the sand.

I would prefer nothing better than it to be an even playing field as far as all states are concerned - but the Victorian teams are just not performing - even though they have far more favourable travel arrangements in regard to away games.

I can North Melbourne heading the way of Fitzroy.

  4. That's the future.

    Less Victorian teams.

    It will happen

  5. Yes. It is on the slide.

By that, I mean the AFL as a whole.

And in regard to the Kangaroos, I think most people will be relieved when they actually do go.

  6. I dont think so , i think in 2008, The Cats, Hawks, Sanits and the Magpies are going to fight out the flag them 4 may just be the top 4

  7. come on mate, you've got to be an inter stater with know idea, footy in Melbourne is huge and more like a religion.

so what W.A won an under 18's comp and the interstates have had a good run in the big league(although the cats may be the start of things to come)

Victoria is where it all started and will always be bigger than any other sport going,Perth is small time mate when it comes to crowds and footy fever-you guys only understand one club (west coast) and are obsessed with one club.

and to gutsache above, mate you only hang out here because you know rugby is dying a slow death-you only have to look at it pitiful crowd numbers.
