I'm thinking of getting it. I visited the web site and they say it is easy to self-install. It is definitely the cheapest phoine service I can find.

  1. as any VoIP phone service, you plug the voice adapter and your phone to your modem. it's basically between your computer and modem.

There may some settings to get the modem to initialize instead of being the computer doing the handshaking.

If you have a router, just plug it in one of the ports of the router and you're done.

It helps if your router does QoS (quality of service) so it can prioritize data for the voice and slow down a data file transfer which speed is not that important.

I have lingo and bbtelsys, both similar to vonage.

most of the time it works great. all the features you need to pay extra from a regulat land line provider are included: caller id, call forward, voice mail sent to you as email, etc.

  2. try getting a MagicJack first, and see if you like VoIP....at least its cheaper then Vonage!

    http://www.magicjack.com/site/index-19g2...

its super-easy to install, and yourll be up and running in 5 minutes...

  3. they are terrible and are in serious finincail trouble they just got fined millions forstealing Verizons patent on some stuff, not sure how log they will be aruond

  4. There is a Vonage and Skype Killer out there called magic Jack,

You pay $39.95 for the USB device plug your regular house phone into it and make calls free in the US and Canada and very cheap for other countries.  There is no monthly charges like vonage or the other VOIP plans. the Second year and every year after you pay only $19 anually .. yes I said  annually.

I bought one at http://www.Kingdirect.com and it works beautifully and the sound quality is just like my regualr phone I cant tell the difference.  that your best bet.

    enjoy.

BTW, you get all the other free stuff too .. caller id, call waiting, voice mail, call forwarding, follow me calling,  and a free phone number any where in the US and canada .. how can anyone beat that ?  amazing

  5. it is the cheapest but how gud is the service really i was just redaing about how they trying to make someone pay the bills that they didnt incurr.

  6. I am a Vonage and MagicJack User.

Vonage isn't too bad their customer service is great (so far no problems) and I recently got 2 months free for telling them I am trying another VOiP service (I didn't tell them it was the MagicJack) so they try to keep customers but at a price I suppose on THEIR end.

Not hard to install, just plug into your modem and plug your computer in their modem they send you and plug in your phone into the jack labeled "line" or "phone"

Call VONAGE toll free at 1-VONAGE-HELP (1-866-243-4357)

    Lastly

MagicJack = $40 + shipping for their product then $20 per year thereafter YES per year

(not much of a number selection)

    Vonage = $20 - $42 per month (one or 2 lines)

(WIDE number selection because they lease numbers from phone companies)

    Hope this helps..

    Thanks
