My uncle's laptop has the Wifi symbol on it and my laptop doesn't have the Wifi symbol, but it says "Intel Pro/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection" on the box.

If i go to starbucks with my computer, will I pick up free internet? Or do I need my uncle's laptop?

And it Wifi and Wireless the same?

Thanks.

  1. Yes. I used to think that wifi and wireless internet were different also.

  2. WiFi and wireless networking are the same thing. It's basically a means of connecting to a computer network (such as the Internet) via a short-distance radio signal, removing the need for wires.

"Wireless Internet" can be used to mean this, but it sometimes has other meanings, such as internet access via a cellular phone network (which is not the same thing).

However, if a company advertises a "wireless hotspot", as Starbucks and other places do, that means they have a wireless network, which in turn means you can access the internet via WiFi.

  3. wifi and wireless do mean the same thing

  4. Your Intel Pro / wireless 4965AGN Network connection is a wireless network interface.  It should work properly if you have configured it.

Wi Fi and wireless LAN are basically the same.  There are other wireless modes (e.g. wireless bridge, wireless point - point, cellular internet, etc) that are different.
