Is WWW the means to organize humans to greater common aims or is it disorganizing us to pursue selfish ends?

  1. Both.  The web has helped many more people get involved in the democratic process, has helped overcome oppression in countries like China and has brought together far-flung communities of like-minded people.  But there will always be people who just want to play games or pursue other narrow interests.


  2. WWW is like a living being.  If you look at a human body under a microscope, there seems to be random, chaotic activity.  Knowledge of the part alone yields no clues as to the whole.

    Yet, when we step back and view the creature in its entirety...the microscopic chaos has given way to an organized, purposeful whole.

    I would say the (apparently disorganized) case-by-case use of WWW all adds up to an organized whole.  Or, it will eventually.

  3. Interesting that you should offer only two potential answers - as I don't see it as either.  AND, you seem determined to have it be only one of the two.  So I guess I can't play, Philosophy King...
