Yes, the totally free checking is great and you get free checks for life.  We have a lot of WAMU locations, so they are convenient.  And, when they have made mistakes on my account they are quick to admit it and reverse the charges.

It really depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a simple, free account that is easy to maintain, Wamu is the way to go. Wamu offers the "Wamu Free Checking" account which has no monthly fee and no minimum balance requirement. Also, unlike many banks, direct deposit is NOT required to keep the account free, but is offered if you choose to use it for employment, social security, etc. Wamu also offers free checks for life, one free overdraft/non-sufficient funds reversal per year, and debit rewards (3 cents for every debit card purchase and the total is added into the account on the year anniversary). Another benefit that many enjoy is the free online banking and bill pay.

Location wise, it really depends on where you live and are located. Wamu has many locations in parts of California, Las Vegas, Washington, Arizona, Texas, etc.

Yes. However, if you need a bank with a lot of locations then NO. It is not convenient.
