Is Wendy's chili ok to eat if I'm trying to lose weight?

We hear how awful food from fast food places is. But I looked into Wendy's chili, which didn't seem so bad to look at it. According to the Wendy's website, a large chili, 340 g, has:

280 kcal, of which 80 are from fat

7 g of fiber, 21 g of protein

15% of the USRDA of iron. (I'm anemic)

It has 1240 mg of sodium, which I'm not sure if it is a lot, but my blood pressure is OK.

Is it a good thing to eat? I find it pretty filling. Or am I fooling myself?

(I often get a mandarin oranges cup with it, which is mandarin oranges section that I'm sure they just scooped out of a can they open.)

  1. ot tastes good

  2. You're not fooling yourself.  Wendy's is fooling you.  If you want canned chili, then buy a can of chili. You don't need to go to Wendys or any of the others for it.

There is no hamburger joint in the world that is any good when your trying to loose weight or at any other time.  Go to the grocery store, buy fresh and cook it at home.  The bulk of any processed/precooked is salt.  Read the labels.

The grocery store magazine diets don't do anything but sell magazines in the grocery store to people that go from one grocery store magazine diet to another because they never loose weight.  Gee, I wonder why.  Your diet should feed you, not satisfy your cravings.

Use spices to enhance flavor, not salt.

Eat big in the morning, eat big at lunch and a salad or fruit at night.  Try to walk four to five brisk miles weekly.(No strolling allowed).

40 pounds went away and have stayed away.

  3. The sodium is a bit much but otherwise, it is not the worst dish there. There are better choices there. They do have baked potatoes (be careful what you add to it and you should eat the skin) and some of the better salads around. One of them is an Asian salad which has mandarin oranges in it

  4. i think that if that's all you are eating with that meal. or maybe the orange cup or a small salad its good. there is only 9 grams of fat, which is a little high but not ridiculous, like the burgers can be.

  5. If that is all you eat and monitor total caloric daily intake and fat intake, and you exercise, sure. If you eat and eat and eat it all day long, no. But it is filling and one of the better choices. The salads at those places can really hurt, especially even the reduced ones and sodium intake.

  6. Don't eat in such places

  7. Well if your bowels move like mine after I have Chili it shouldn't stay in your system long enough to digest the calories! haha

  8. yes the chili is ok to eat while on a diet! i work at wendys so i will tell you the truth!  and yes the mandrine oranges are scooped from a can then put in a cup!

  9. Just so you know 1240 mg of sodium per serving is a whole lot. You should really aim for 2500 or less a day. I am supposed to eat 2000 mg a day or less and it is really hard.

  10. no way. that is wrong. they lie. i looked it up on an actual website and it really has 540 calories in it omg. so i wouldn't eat it. plus my friend got really fat from eating it everyday and believeing there was really only 280 cals

  11. Try to get the small one and try to get away from French Fries try a plain potato instead.

  12. if you want to lose weight, STOP EATING FAST FOOD!! you'll find that even the things that are supposed to be low-cal or "healthy" really aren't. For example, the mandarin orange cups has 80 calories and a regular orange (purchased at a grocery store, market, etc.) only has about 35. I regularly ate fast food until last year, and dropped 35 pounds!! (I also quit soft drinks. the regular ones have way too many calories, and the diet ones have too much sodium.) This is an effective way to monitor your calorie intake:

Multiply your weight by 10, then add your weight again to that sum: That gives you the number of calories you need to maintain your current weight without activity. To lose weight, take in less calories than this number.

The best thing you can do is buy and prepare your own food. Fast food may seem less expensive and more convenient, but this simply isn't true. I can buy a week's worth of lunch for about $35 bucks.
