Is Whitechapel and Aldgate area in London dangerous?

  1. Not especially.

    Same as most places, use some common sense, and you should be ok.  Whitechapel probably gets ot's infamy from of old.  This is where Jack the ripper murdered five women.

    However, way back in 1888!

  3. Aldgate is right on the edge of the financial district...so on weekday evenings it is almost deserted, but perfectly safe. On Sundays it is where Petticoat Lane market is held, so it gets very crowded.

    Whitechapel is just up the road from Aldgate, and is the heart of the traditional working class East End, although that is not so evident these days. It is very busy, a bit run-down, has a large Bangladeshi community, and is reasonably safe. Increasingly, property prices are very expensive there as the area is so close to the financial area.
