Question:

Is Wilt's stats really that great?

He has some stats that I don't think will ever be broken. But he was a giant out there and ahead of his competition and time. Can the comparison be made that it's like a High school varsity basketball player playing against 5th graders.

  1. THE NUMBERS DO NOT LIE!

THIS QUESTION PUTS IN PERSPECTIVE KOBE'S 81 point game against the worst team in the world!

  2. (last comments) no todays centers aren't very good. chamberlain would star center. 51 ppg on any level is good!

  3. Get back to me after you actually become capable of scoring 100 points in a game against a bunch of 5th graders.

  4. yeah they are great

  5. Yes, if wilt played the game today he would be just an average center.

  7. He was a beast inside regardless...

It was because of him a whole new set of rules were instated into the NBA:

    The three-point shot

3 Seconds in the key (offensive and defensive)

...there were few more, I can't remember them right now.

Granted that he was much more able and athletic compared to his competition at the time, when it gets to the point where new rules are instated to make things difficult for ONE person, you know he can't just be athletic, some skill is involved.

I'd say he was Dwight Howardesque in the paint, definitely had an inside touch in the post game. If he played today he would get about 19 ppg, 14 rpg, 3 bpg. Of course, that would be in his first season, not accounting for any changes he would make to his game.

  8. If Wilt play against today's competition he would be the same great player.  You guys assumption that players from his era is not as strong or talent is ridiculous.  If he was playing today, he would have access to the same food, training, coaching, and evolution of the game as today's player.  That would make him even better then he was back then.  If you take a player from this era back, he would have the same training and food, coaching as they were back then and he would be at the same level he is compare to his pier of his era.

Time doesn't make a player great.  Great player make a player great.
