  1. YOU HAVE to have the updates, NEVER turn them off!  Its your most proactive protection against viruses and vulnerabilities.

However, with that said, Microsoft pushes patches as a rollup on the first Tuesday of the month.  They have critical ones throughout the rest of the month.

However, you need to find out if you have a problem loading a particular patch.  That is why its trying to do it every day.  It could be a number of reasons WHY its not installing such as:

    1)  You have something on your computer (Malware) preventing you from installing it.

    2)  You dont have rights to write to the registry or are not an Admin on the box.

    3)  You havent rebooted in awhile

Try opening up Internet Explorer and going to Tools > Windows Update.  It will try to install them and explain what is going right (or wrong) with the installation.

Edit - Sometimes you need to have a previous update installed PRIOR to needing the next one.  In other words, you are not fully protected UNTIL You repeat windows updates multiple time.  For example.  I load Windows XP.  I then get the latest Service Pack (3).  SP3 has vulnerabilities.  I cannot patch those until SP3 is protected!  You should repeat windows update UNTIL there are no more criticals or you can start trouble shooting the errors on why a patch cannot install!  It is not a FLAW, just a part of MS life!

  3. i wouldnt bother with the updates turn updates off

  4. The very same thing is happening to me and it starting to **** me!!!

  5. As long as you don't do: install the updates. it will be going on.

just install the updates when the pc is updated it will be finished.

updates are availlable as long as you didn't install them.

  6. Many users have Windows Updates set to Automatic and are finding that there are updates ready to be installed, when they install them they then get another round of updates ready to install. This is a problem with the Microsoft Updates and not the users machines.
