Question:

Is Yahoo run by three year olds or monkeys with laptops?

Last December I was diagnosed with a rare neuropathic disease called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. I was given a 1 in 3 chance of dying. I was 24 years old, and I never smoked anything, don't drink alcohol and am in good shape, yet at one point I literally stared my infant daughter in the face and could not say for sure whether or not I would see her in the morning.

Obviously it is just part of growing up that one learns there is not always going to be somebody behind you to catch you when you fall, and I'm not complaining about the situation, HOWEVER...

At a time where I was searching for second, third, and fourth opinions(my primary care Dr and the Emergency Room docs failed to diagnosis me,) I reached out to Yahoo! Answers for some sort of feedback on my situation, just to see if anyone out there went through what I was going through... 99% of the responses I got were complete B.S. One girl even gave me a suggestion that had I have followed would have left my in a coma or worse. It was literally the worst possible solution to my problem.

Call me naive, but I have faith in mankind... at least on the subject matter of being able to answer a question honestly without having a cookie thrown their way. Why does Yahoo! need to offer a reward system?? They claim one gets more points for 'good' answers, but isn't it is much easier to unlock the 'benefits' of upper level membership by basically answering a ****load of questions that one has no idea about??? And why the heck do I have to unlock the right to respond to and ask certain questions on the freakin' INTERNET in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA???

  1. Because people are stupid and naive.

They answer a c**p load of questions because they care more about their ego then their sense of intelligence.

To bad their stupidity reflects badly on the people as a whole and not the individuals them selves...

  2. Yahoo answer's strength is also its weakness.  Anyone can answer a question, which means that you can draw on a large base of knowledge as well as a large base of stupidity.  AFAIK the points system allows you do give thumbs up and down as you get higher, etc.  You get more points for getting best answer rather than just answering - a best answer is worth 6 normal ones - so the carrot is there for good answers, but let's face it, people are often idiots and so need a carrot.

  3. Sorry about you situation, the world is full of stupid people.. some people don't take things serious.

  4. Actually they're g*y Bikers on Acid but hey the price is right!

  5. First off, I wouldn't take any major medical advise off Yahoo Answers. That's just dumb. These are after all people(sometimes even little kids) sitting behind their computer screens just typing away whatever pleases them without any consequences. I mean did you really think someone on Yahoo was going to give you a better answer than a doctor?

  6. You have my sympathy, Johnny Damon's Mother. I suffer from congestive cardiac failure and sometimes wonder why I am still here. Even so-called specialists and doctors have been known to get it wrong. The drugs they prescribed for me nearly killed me on two occasions, sending me into a diabetic coma for 3 days and diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes after I came back to this world, having had a 'near death' out of body experience. Fortunately, I have found a way of beating diabetes, but I  still monitor my blood glucose count, just in case.

Only those who know how to beat your problem will be able to help, whether they are in the medical profession or not, but be careful. There are those who think they know, yet know nothing. Have you found someone with the same complaint as you, yet when you ask them their experience they just clam up and won't talk about it, as if you are asking personal details about them? Makes you wonder if they are as ill as they say they are, doesn't it, because I have had that experience?

I know the feeling where Yahoo are concerned. If they are going to do a job, why don't they do it properly, instead of putting restrictions on help by word count.

Regarding the points system. It would appear that some people like to wear a feather in their cap for some of the c**p they come out with, but there are some, not many, who know what they are talking about. Sometimes its hard to know who's right.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about your complaint. Sounds like a nervous complaint and being malignant, suggests it has not progressed, so I am unable to help, but I can tell u all about Type A hepatitis, having had it, the symptoms and what will help to cure it. You never know, your illness may go into recession. If there are signs that it might, you might be able to find the strength to fight it off.

Regarding my medical problem at the moment. I know what caused it, who caused it, what it has led to and those concerned should stand trial for attempted murder, but our judicial system in the UK want to keep it quiet, because they are responsible and won't address the situation, so I get my compensation from benefits and I intend to live a long time to make them pay dearly.

You say you have never smoked and never drunk alcohol. While I was in hospital, I met a bloke in the next room to mine, who i worked with 38 years ago. After we talked about old times, he told me he had just been diagnosed with lukaemia and told me the same as you have, to the extent that he liked fresh air, walking and never ate what he called, junk food, yet he was saddened to find he was in this condition. The last I heard from another workmate of mine, he lived another 3 years before he died.

I smoke and drink moderatley, yet friends and relatives who never smoked, nearly all, are dead now, while my friends who smoke are still here. Makes you think, doesn't it?

Nevertheless, there is one question I need to ask you. Can you remember in your life if you have ever suffered some kind of shock or trauma that sticks in your mind? This could be the basis of your illness, although there may be little you could have done about it. The subconscious mind that can trigger some illnesses is a very complex thing and requires deep thought in an effort to get an answer and all I can do at the moment for you, is answer your question with a question. I hope I have been of help and wish you the best of luck for the future

    .

  7. And then we get the idiots like Priyanka who don't care about you or your question except as a place to spam for their own gain.  Priyanka's answer will be deleted soon I bet.

I reckon forums devoted to the subject you want to discuss are better than somewhere like here with good moderators who have zero tolerance for dumb and selfish answers.

I give Yahoo credit for the effort but it's a huge task.  I know they do make the effort because you often notice stupid questions and stupid answers go missing fairly quickly.

Basically, most people are selfish and more interested in their own gain or airing their own opinions in the belief everyone will think how wonderful they are, than in helping others.  Yahoo is dealing with that ALL the time with HEAPS of people!!  Forums often are able to be policed more easily and spammers caught more quickly because less people go there and the ratio of mods to idiots is higher.

Keep your chin up - you sound like one tough cookie who isn't intending to let it get you down.  Good for you!!

EDIT:  Lol!!  And while I was writing my reply, Priyanka's spam response got booted!!  :-D  :-D

So I think we have proof that if enough people report the idiots, Yahoo can do a better job!
