  1. of course not I canter a 23 year old horse and does it like he is 2

  2. noo!! of course not! 14 is still young

my favourite horse that i used to ride was 23 and she was amazing and fast and i rode her all the time! horses live til around 30, so if u think about it, this horse is only half of that!

  3. Nope, I'm a proud owner of a 15 yearold horse, he has reached his prime now. He can jump 3ft, moved along in the last couple of months from a childrens lesson horse. A horse at our barn was 20 and jumping in the higher classes at shows, around 5ft.

  4. horses live to thirty and sometimes longer. If you are a "beginner" rider a fourteen year old is ideal! Have fun!

  5. The age of a horse doesn't have as much effect on their suitability for you as their temperament and soundness.  If the horse is sound to jump, then the age should not be an issue.  Many jumpers don't come into their own until they hit 8 and they keep going through their 20s.  As the horse starts to feel arthritis or stiffness, you might want to extend your warm ups and lower your fences, but the age this happens depends on the individual horse.  Pending your veterinarian's opinion, you might have another 10 years of working that horse just as any other.

  6. no. hes not to old for jumping

my friends horse is 22 and still jumps

i garantee u that if u went to some riding skools they have some horses that are almost thrity jumping, not nice for them tho.

    gd luck

  7. no a 14 year old horse is not to old because most horses live to be 23 to 25 years old

  8. not at all. my friend and i still ride a 26 year old horse, and gallop him. and we're gonna jump him over small logs

  9. a 14 year old horse is not old by any means...he is  at the right age for just about anything.  have fun with him, you should make a great team.

  10. This is an excellent age for a horse. If he suits you, get him.

  11. not at all... when they are 14, they have experiance... which is really good to have... i use to ride a 26 TB who jumped really nicely...

  12. You can do absolutely anything to any level on a 14yo horse. You'll often see horses older than that eventing and jumping at the highest level.

Find out as much as you can about this horse's past, as this will invariably have the answer as to how much longer he will live an active life. If he was "cowboy broke" at 2 and ridden hard until now, not so good, but if he has lived a fairly"normal" life he'll likely be fine.

Be sure to get a Vet Check on him before you set your heart on buying him. He will find if the horse has any underlying health problems.

I hope he works out for you, good luck!!

  13. No, it's a good sensible age.

    My own horse is 15.

  14. No.  My horse was still jumping at 14.  She's 21 now and if she wouldn't have developed ringbone a few years ago, I'd probably still be doing some small jumps with her.

  15. Of course not. 14 is the perfect age in my opinion. There at that stage where they "have been there done that" and they still have enough spunk.

  16. He has a few good years left on him, as long as he has no other health issues or problems with things like his joints, then he should be fine. I would start slowing down on your work around the 18 - 20 year range

  17. no 14 is not old.

  18. I would get him. He would be a steady confident mount for you, and I'm sure still as fun as ever. 14 is a wonderful age, especially if this is your first horse.

  19. 14 is a perfect age provided the horse is sound.  Do a pre-purchase vet exam and if you get the green light, you should enjoy this horse for years to come.

  20. not at all! but I would suggest you have a vet check him out first! better safe than sorry!

  21. Not at all! Horses can live to be 30.
