I was just curious if they were the same and why they might be different.

  1. Depends on the brand really and if the #2 hybrid is a true, "hybrid-iron" or is the hybrid larger in size than other hybrids.

The #5 wood may have a longer shaft on it and .335 tip versus .370 tip for the irons and hybrid.

    Longer shaft equals more distance.

  2. nope the loft angle may be the same but that doesn't mean it is the same club, they hit differnetly for one, the hybrid can hit like a wood or iron...the wood should only bit hit like a wood.  Not to mention the ball flight and distances may be different as well.

  3. Chasyone,

No they are not the same. The hybrid should be heavier and have a larger shaft. Most woods have a .335 shaft, most irons have a .370 shaft and most hybrids have a .350 shaft. Although most hybrids do follow the iron lengths, ie; 2 iron would be 1 1/2" longer then a 5 iron. A # 2 hybrid would have about the same length as a 2 or 3 iron depending on where and who builds it.

    Therefore, the # 2 hybrid is between 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" shorter then the 5 wood.

    Hope this helps,

    J

  4. The wood will have more mass and distance.

  5. Absolutely not,

Just because the angle is the same, that does not make these two clubs equal.  A 2iron hybrid is usually smaller with a lighter shaft, thus making it more accurate, causing lower ball flight, and usually lacks distance compared to a 5 wood.  The 5 wood has a bigger center of gravity, moment of inertia, heavier shafts (usually), and typically has a much higher ball flight.  However, usually you lose some accuracy with the 5 wood compared to the 2iron hybrid.  Just depends on the brand, shaft, and overall make of the club.
