I took the ACT and got an overall score of 19. Is that good enough to be accepted to a university?? Or should I look at taking it again??

  1. A 19 isn't all that good of score but it depends on the college you're looking at. I think a 20 is about average for all test-takers.  Most colleges, on their websites, tell you the average ACT or SAT scores of their students. (Try googling the college and the "Common Data Set".) Generally, public universities report that their average on in the low twenties.

If you didn't study before taking it perhaps buy a study book or class and after some work, try it again. But if you studied a lot and felt like you did your best when taking it the first time, than it doesn't matter whether you go a 19, a 25 or a 34, your score is unlikely to go up by much.

  2. You should compare it to universities you will be applying at. College board has stats on practically every college, and you can compare the classes you've taken, sat scores, gpa, act scores and the like. If your score is above average for your top schools, then you're fine. However, if you want to be competitive, you should probably try again. Good luck!

  3. I would take it again, 19 isnt terrible, but most colleges are looking for something a little better

  4. If you're looking to get into a local or noncompetitive school, you're doing fine.  Schools with an acceptance any lower than 40% will probably want something in the twenties.  Ivy's and other competitive schools like to see 30's.
