  1. anything that runs well is a good first car... but you have to be careful with renault and some other used foreign cars... if you do buy it make sure you have a good, reliable mechanic...

  2. no we had a megane scenic as our first car a  1998 it nearly killed us it broke down 5 times renaults r terrible cars.

  3. the engine size and car weight restrict you to a small caravan.

check cambelt has been changed as it can cost between £350 /£500

  4. to powerful for a first car.

  5. There is no such thing as a good first car. It depends entirely on your circumstances and the condition of the vehicle. If the car you are looking at has been well maintained (service history), test drives to your satisfaction and is in your price range - yes. Diesels that have a proper service history tend to last well. If in doubt walk away as diesel repairs tend to be expensive. Having said that both my cars are diesels. I wouldn't bother with a petrol car, engines too flimsy.

  6. Woah! No!

They drink fuel way too quickly, too big for a young, new driver.

Go for something way smaller such as a Ford Ka, if your finances are good, go for a Nissan or Toyota - they'll last you longer than a ford ka (and Renault.)

If you like the height of the megane, try a Suzuki Vitara, the older ones. They are pretty good on fuel, I had a 1992 one for my first car and it did around 45mpg, insurance can be pricey though so shop around.

  7. I personally wouldn't choose it (i am a bloke after all) but it should be perfectly capable of pulling that caravan. I would take someone who knows about cars with you though as Renaults aren't exactly renowned for their reliability & they are quite prone to rust. The space inside should be ok for a full family & a boot full of shopping or luggage. You'll also avoid the huge tax hikes that drivers of more modern vehicles are going to get too so I guess that's a plus too. Remember to take a knowledgable person with you when you go to buy it & don't just buy it cos it's there, shop around a bit & you may find a better car in your price range. A website to try would be http://www.parkers.co.uk look at some of the reviews there to help you decide & price up!
