Is a 2000 Hyundai Accent Worth repairing?

The body is more or less ok (it could use a new paint job) but the engine is shot.

I was quoted 900 for a new to me engine plus labor.

Worth it?

Or sell it broken and get another used car?

  1. I was in the same situation with my 2000 stratus last NOV., I found a motor on Parts.com, and got lucky this time. If the accent is in really good shape, yes, but if it worn out looking, sell it as is and get a new ride.

  2. Is it worth it?

Not many vehicles are "worth fixing" as they all lose value every day. That being said....If you like the car, or if you can not afford another one, either new or used, or if you simply do not want to deal with another used car and the problems you DON'T know about, where you probably know your car's quirks by now, then I say fix it and roll on for a few more years hopefully, for 900 bucks. If you are over it, then get another car and wash your hands clean from this one. You could probably get a  couple hundred bucks from a  boneyard, or even to another owner who can use parts from yours to fix theirs.

I hope my ramblings made sense to you, but I really hope it helped you.

Best of luck, and God save the queen

  3. Not a big fan of putting new engines or transmissions in older cars. If the rest of the car is in good shape I would say putting a warrantied used engine is the most cost effective choice. I've seen them as low as $250 at car-part.com. Worth a look.
