  1. Yes, but keep in mind, the only thing that smaller boats carry less of is water, fuel, and power.


  2. Depends on the boat, and your skill level.

    Often times smaller boats are safer, I'm told.

    They are harder for the ocean to break in rough seas.

    I know many, many people who swear by smaller boats (32' and under).

    The Colombia boats built in the late 60's and early 70's are supposed to be super stout.

    They really didn't know the full story on fiberglass yet, so these boats (in this time period) were overbuilt.

    Anyway, small boats are easier to manage, the maintenance costs are lower, and they can be hurled around at sea without the 'overstressed' issue that bigger boats can have.

  5. Search "Chuck Muer" on Google; he went down in Atlantic on 35' sailboat in a storm 5 years ago.

    30' is too small in most configurations, when the weather is bad.
