  1. This is a very good work out, especially if you are pushing a big gear....watch out though. You push a big gear for too many years and you'll get Varicous veins in your calfs, I speak from experience!!

    Good luck!

  2. NO, How far, fast, hard, often?

    Frequency, Intensity, Duration;

    Duration:  You state 30-50 minutes.

    Intensity: 30 min in hi gear; up hill, down hill, coasting, strolling?   How hard do you feel you are working out?  Pulse, heart rate target zone?  You tell yourself, are you getting a workout?

    Frequency;   Is the sun out and your riding Once a day, week, month? What is your frequency? How often are you working out. General guidelines are a minimum of 3 times a week with rest days between workout.

    Only in the movies, TV and infomercials does exercise melt away pounds.  If you are eating more than you are burning off then you will gain weight.  Nutrition, good eating habits bring weight loss.  Your bike ride might consume 3-600 calories, maybe.  That's not alot of ice cream, potato chips, cookies, energy bars, sports drinks...

  3. In the sun? Well, like everyone has said 30-50 min. is a reasonable time for exercise. Whether it's sunny or not has nothing to do with it. If anything riding in hot weather would reduce your ability to ride longer and harder.

  4. Diet and exercise.  You're half way there, any activity for thirty minutes is good for you.  Keep it up!

  5. In my opinion - any day you've been riding is a good day ,whether it be rainy, windy or sunny - because cycling is so fun.

    I'd be a tad careful about riding in high gears all the time tough, all that "mashing" on the pedals might not be all that good for you in the long-term.

    Perhaps, incorporate some more "spinning" into your routine - that is using a slightly lower gear & maintaining a steady spin.

    You can always  make workouts harder by riding  up more hills or by spending some more time in the saddle.

    In the heat though, extra water & some sun-protection might be a good idea.

    When I ride in the summer months, to avoid sunburn, I prefer to wear a light-weight long-sleeve bike top, and sun-screen & sun-glasses are also useful.

    Happy riding

  6. 30 minutes is for p ussies. that would be a good warm up ride. Try to build up to at least a 3 or 4 hour ride.

  7. yes it will help you lose weight. like the prev. answers, any cardio and a good diet is a start. just be sure to drink water when riding especially out in the sun. as you build stamina, go for longer rides and/or more climbs.

  8. You could do it in the rain and it'd be a good workout. High gear, low gear.. Get any sort of resistance and it's a good thing.
