Is a 'Mystery Shopper' job all myths and lies?

I have always wanted to be a mystery shopper.... 1 - because I love to shop!!!! LoL! Well, I have searched online for hours on end and I every mystery shopper job I find, you have to give your credit card number to. (I don't think so!!!!) So is being a mystery shopper non-existant?

it is a real job but you have to pay to become one  I am one but its not all its cracked up to be they normally just give you about 10 or less for each shop you won't make a lot of money best not to waste your money

no its real but you need to shop with your own money :(

but if you realy want to make money give me a email @ [e-mail] we have people that make 50.000 a year  part time

I did this - the pay is horrible and they wanted me to travel all over the place.  If you live in a city it may be ok, but the pay for example on one job was only $7.50 (total).  It is pretty dumb.
