  1. 5:28 is a good mile for anyone, but if this was your first timed mile, that's great.  If you want to improve it though, i'd say you should run sprints, run a mile every so often, or do other kinds of conditioning.

  2. 5:28 is pretty good!  to improve, you should run 400's and 800's.  sprint a 400 and see how fast you can do it.  then add 5 seconds to your time and run 8 of those with a minute off in between.  do the same for 800's, but run 4 of them with 2 minutes off in between.  the whole point is to increase your stamina and get an idea of your limits!  your coach will have other good training ideas if you really want to get better...

  3. you might want to take less longer strides with more power and that should speed you up

  4. oh yea!! thats excellent for not running in sports. But if u practice intensely, u can get it down to about a 5, high 4 minute mile

  5. thats pretty good. ways to improve this time is too run longer and faster.

  6. I'm a senior cross country runner and for you not being in either of those that's not too bad, especially at your age. Run everyday and mix it up with long distance runs and speed workouts. And join track! You're distance team could probably use you.

  7. i think thats really good. but to improve just practice running more

  8. its a great time if you dont run track or XC

i dont think your P.E. coach will know how to improve.

id do some mountain trails or join track or XC.

    Leave it to the professionals

  9. omg you're doing awesome! just keep conditioning, maybe try running 2 miles pretty hard, like in around 10-12 min and then when you go to do the mile, it will be really easy!

  10. not bad. my brother's mile time is a 5:08 and he worked his a** off to get that down. he's trying to make varsity this year, and i don't think he should have any problem.

at this point, i have a 6:53, but that should go down soon. i haven't worked too hard to get it down.

the only way to improve is to join track or xc (or both.) run lots to keep in shape.

    Good luck! :)

  11. That's pretty good for just starting out. just continue to run everyday and eat well (like bananas) also running with a friend (who runs better than you) can help you push yourself to do really well. having a goal means all the difference =]
