Is a 6'1 shortboard good for my first shortboard? (i already know how to surf...). i'm 6'0 145-150 lbs

Yes, depending on your skill level and the waves you'll be surfing in. Assuming you wont need a gun anytime soon... Perhaps a fish would be good since they are better for small waves with extra float. They have wider noses, wider tails, and are thicker.

Yes, It should be able to handle waves up to 8 possibly 10 feet.

you will be fine on that... i am 6'0 200lbs and ride a 6'4.  does great.  gotta have some extra foam for the cusion... lol
