  1. depending what 4cyl and 6cyl your compairing

if your compairing a stock 4.2L Chevy Trailblazer V6

to a Cobalt SS 2.0L 4cyl Turbo Motor then the 4Cyl is faster

    if you're compairing a Nissan 350 Z 3.0L 6Cyl

to a Sentra 1.8s 4cyl then the V6 is faster

cylinders don't really matter its teh power your getting out of those cylinders that matters more

  2. A six cylinder may have more efficient combustion, but at the rate of its performance wise, we should take a look at its CC to body weight ratio.

  3. The simple answer is "sometimes".

One of the fastest cars I have ever driven was a Plymouth Laser Turbo, which had a 2.0 litre turbocharged, 4 cylinder engine. It was much faster than the V6 Lumina my mother drives, and faster than a lot of V8 powered cars I have driven.

I recently traded my Dodge Caravan V6 for a Honda Civic. The Civic is faster and gets 60% better gas mileage.

But let's compare apples to apples.

An 08 Honda Accord V6 will outperform an 08 Honda Accord 4 cylinder. But in my mind, the difference is not enough to justify the additional $2500 in purchase price, nor the reduced gas mileage for around town driving. Out on the highway, the gap narrows.

The real question is, how fast do you need to go, and are you willing to pay the price?

  4. Not always - there are other factors to take into account.

I.e. most Manual Transmission cars are faster than an Automatic transmission vehicle.

  5. depends on the engine capacity. a six cylinder is definitely smoother
