Is a 60 degree wedge really worth it?

I've decided that it's really not enough different from a 56 degree with an open face to make it worth sacrificing a spot in the bag.

  1. well the thing is that typically the bounce on a 56 degree is more than on a 60.  a 56 is meant to glide through soft sand while a 60 digs a bit more typically.  so when you open the club face up with a 56 degree you are bringing in the possibility to skull the shot if you are on a tighter lie or fairway.

  2. In my opinion it is not worth it.  When I was playing regularly, I was able to adjust to make different shots by ball position,  hand position and by opening and closing the face.  By not having a extra wedge I was able to carry a full set of iron which included a one iron which I felt more comfortable with.

  3. mz975d hit it right onthe head ! you should choose your wedges based on turf/sand conditions and the angle of attack in your golf swing ( steeper angle swings require higher bounce wedges, shallow angle swings need lower bounce wedges)

  4. Its all in the bounce........But....the variety of shots available with a 60   take a bit of time to actually learn correctly....the 56 seems to be your club of choice.....Though its really tough to flop a 60 off a tight lie.  Its your game and your clubs.....Sounds like you have already made the decision anyway.
