  1. 10.0- 10.5 is widely used and widely sold as standard. There are three reasons for choosing a loft outside of 10 - 10.5

1 You slice or hook drives. At this point you might want to get a higher loft. A 12-13 degree loft will make the sidespin less prominent because it will invoke backspin.

2  You hit extremely high/low drives. The reason to get more/less loft should be obvious at this point. You want higher drives=more loft, you want lower drives=less loft.

3  The spin you want isn't happening. If you want a draw or a fade it's gonna be hard with a 13 degree driver. Remember lateral versus backspin? Tiger plays a 7.5 degree driver why? Cause all he has to do is move the ball one ball forward and there is his fade, one back and he draws it.

9.5 - 10.5 covers the bogey golfer's desired trajectories. 9.5 being low driving shot and 10.5 being higher "floating" type of drive. So you have to be consistent at least before choosing your loft and it has its benefits. If you don't play that consistently it's just kind of an arbitrary number.

  2. The most popular loft for the average golfer is 10.5.  Low handicappers and pros will often opt for a lower loft.  I read somewhere that Vijay Singh uses a 7 degree driver.

  3. The most popular loft for the driver is 10.5 degrees. This loft is offered by most club manufactuers since it is easier to hit, has the proper trajectory for the swing of the average golfer. Most touring pros lofts are from 8 degrees to 9.5 which accomodate their faster swing speeds. Us older chaps are heading for 12.5 degrees for we love to see that ball in the air.

  4. 10.5 is usually the norm. but it all depends on what works best for you, drivers range from 8 - 15 degrees.

  5. There isn't a standard loft because drivers come in different lofts.  It depends on what works for you.  I've hit a 9*, 10*, 10.5*, and a 13* driver.  I currently hit a 10.5* driver.

  6. 10.5 is the most common but many mid to high handicappers use 9.5 when they should be using at least a 10.5.

For many high handicappers a 12 degree driver would actually get more distance for them, eh... just in case you were wondering.

  7. 10.5 is the most widely used but like with most other things it's what works best for you and what you are comfortable with. to me that is the most important. for example, i've never hit a good 2 iron shot in my life so that club isn't in my bag.

  8. 10.5 is the standard.   You should test a few clubs or get measured to see which degree you hit better.  I would hit a 12 degree if it meant more distance and better accuracy.   I use a 9 degree because I like the ball flight better and I get more distance. I typically hit the ball fairly high so the 9 degree worked the best.

  9. A10 degree is the best loft for a driver!!!!!!!!

  10. For driver loft.. there really isn't a "standard" per se.. because this really depends on swing speed and other variables..   So.. since all golfers do not swing the same.. then therefore there has to be different driver lofts to accomodate the golfing population..

GEEK has a driver head that is 7.5 * http://www.valuegolfcomponents.com/Drive...

I believe you can probably find them even less than that..

Nike has a 13 and 16 option for their drivers. (Lucky 13 and Sweet 16)

  11. 10.5 is the average loft, but I prefer 9.5, it'll go farther.  If you feel comfortable then that's what I would suggest.
