Is a 90 minute work commute outrageous?

I spend 45 minutes each way to and from work. I also spend about $35 per week on gas... Do you consider this outrageous? Or are there other people doing long commutes too?

  1. I personally think it's pretty outrageous.  Remember that gas isn't the only cost, you have to factor in wear and tear on your car (50 cents per mile total cost of driving).  But there are people who do it.  If it's a very high-paying job, I guess it's OK.

  2. I drive 65 miles one way and it takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes to get to work. My 1994 toyota corolla is paid for and gets 32 mpg, I work 7 on and 7 off, So it is not that bad. I work the night shift from 10pm to 10am, So my days are really 15 hours long and it can get really hard if I do not get my sleep. But I look at it as only working half the year and the other half I'm off!

  3. not really for a high paying job, but for minimum wage, forget it..

  4. h**l no thats about the average. i use to have an hr and 45mins to and from work. and about 60-80 a wk on gas. so ur pretty gd if the job is part time or 7.00 an hr its not worth it

  5. Look at it this way, if you don't want to move to where your job is, commuting is the trade off. If you're only spending $35 a week on gas, that's really good.

  6. I go to school in Orange County (UC Irvine) I live in a suburb of LA its about a 50 mile drive (100 miles round trip) but I only go Tuesdays and Thursdays ( 16 units so im there the whole day) it takes an average of 2 hr to go and come back (if there are no accidents). I have a 23mpg car (v6) I spend about 50 dollars a week on gas.

So don't sweat it I have it worse!
