Ok so i might buy a used car and it looks very clean from the inside out. It has a clean title and only has 77,000 miles on it. The owner is selling it for $3300. Am i getting ripped off, or is it a good deal. What do you think????

  1. Try out Driverside. It's still in beta but for each model it has cost of ownership, quality ratings, lists of similar cars, technical specs and links to other sites that will help you out with more data.  Also the pricing data by mileage will help you see how good the deal is.

  2. its 13 years old , so i wouldnt expect it to be great , the miles are lower than normal for the cars age , something probably happenned to it to keep it off the road for a few years , flood , crash , etc.?

id offer them 2800 tops if it seems ok when you drive it

  3. yeah as far as mileage goes thats really good, if you can test drive it. makes sure the brakes dont make any noise and make sure the AC blows cold. check for leaks under the car turn on all the lights to see if the work too. i just bought a 96 Maxima with 180k+ miles on it and it drives great, he was asking 3000 but i paid 2000 and i think its worth atleast 4000 with all the stuff he has in it. he put it hundreds of dollars worth of extra parts so i can play with it too.

also see if the car starts right at the turn of the key and listen to see if you hear any belts slipping. these arent big problems but it could end up costing you money later on.

being completely stock $3300 is a bit much see id say $2500 would be a fair price if the car is well kept. check Kelly Blue book too thats helpful on determining the price of cars. ask if its been in any accidents, when they put on new tires and changed the oil. make sure they've been up to date with all inspections and maintenance.

    hope this helped.

  4. Good mileage.

As far as the deal goes, it sounds good but can depend on a lot of factors.  Does it have a clean title or a salvaged title?

Make sure you have it inspected by an independent mechanic before you purchase.  He/She will be able to tell you if it has been in a serious accident or has some mechanic concerns.

In addition, ask the seller if they have service records and if the timing belt has been changed.

  5. If it was well maintained, that car probably has 200,000 more miles in it. My '92 belongs to a friend and I think it has 350,000 miles on it now and it is still going strong.

Those are really low miles for the year, and the price of used economy cars just keeps going up and up. I don't think that price is too far off for the year if it is in good condition.

I might offer $3,000, but I wouldn't feel bad about paying $3,300 if it was clean and well maintained.
