I just started college and I have found it annoying to bring by 17" laptop to school and back, especially since, I only need it once and a wile.

I was wandering if the Eee PC would do just as good, and if I could type on it then send it to my Vista Laptop

also what is the difference between the Surf 4GB and the 4GB.

  1. It would be OK for typing stuff.  It's good that you acknowledge that it won't be your primary computer.  It's only good for light activities like web browsing and typing short documents because of the small screen and keyboard size.  Just remember to save stuff in a format that can be opened on your other laptop.  The Eee uses a Linux distribution and OpenOffice.  I ended up installing Windows on my Eee 701 4G, but am using Portable OpenOffice on an SDHC card to save disk space.

The difference between the 4G Surf and 4G is that the 4G Surf has a lower-capacity battery and it does not have a webcam.

I bought my black Eee 4G from NewEgg, but for some reason all 4G models are out of stock there and only the white one is listed.  TigerDirect has the Eee 4G in stock.  The 4G Surf is $50 cheaper.
