Are they easy pets to care for? If you let it loose, will it p**p all over and is the p**p gross and hard to clean up? Any SERIOUS input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Well, I've had a bearded dragon and I've also had roomates with these unique reptiles.  And as a matter of fact, my roomy also had a six year old girl who absolutely adored the lizard.  The animal caused no harm to anyone, and she would walk around the house with this reptile clinging to hr shirt.  Needless to say, even though your child may LOVE this pet, there are some things you should know before taking the leap into the coldblooded pet world.

Your child will love watching his/her new pet eat (they are violent with the crickets, something all toddlers love to watch.), bask, and crawl around his tank...You'll be the one dealing with the "nasty" side of this animal.  Heating is the primary need for animals like these.  A timed light would be the best solution so you dont have to do what I did (turning the light on and off each day. really tedious, and if you forget you feel terrible!)  You have to deal with the great task of pouring crickets into his cage, some of which will sometimes get out.  and they chirp...REALLY loud.  Cleaning his tank is also a very important and also sometimes VERY ugly.  You have to put him in a save location where other animals will not get to him and where he cannot come to any harm by his own or other devices.  Cleaning out the tank isnt too hard if you do it regularly, just pour out the bedding, wipe out the tank and clean his bowl etc. etc.  If you can deal with the task of care for this animal, then I recommend it highly.

As for the descision, it is a great one, you can teach your child how to help clean the tank or take care of his pet and since some gentle carrying is recommended you can also teach your child how to be gentle with animals.

So its a definite yes, they are great pets for kids, no they dont usually p**p everywhere when let out of their cage and if they do happen to let out a little bit, its not too bad and a warm cloth will take care of it right away without trouble.

  2. yes they are easy to care for once set up properly, you need a viv at least four feet long, a uvb light switched on at least 8 hours a day, a thermostat to control temp, calcium and vitamins to dust food and crickets for youngsters as they rarely eat fruit and veg when very young, a good reptile shop should explain exactly what you need and how to set it up plus a care sheet for feeding, they are great social animals and no, in my experience they don,t p**p everywhere. i have two males in seperate vivs run by one thermostat,

  3. yes they are good and if the do their buisness its easy to pick up with a tissue, And only a good pet if a older sibling 12+ , or a parent is willing to help feed and take care of

  4. Yes not only a dangerous dragon but one with a beard, meaning he has something to hide why not buy one for you child
