I just thought of this and wondered what ya'll thought of it. Ever thought about it before? What does a "blessing" do? Does it make something/someone holy? Or, does it expel the evil in it/them?We used to have holy cards and rosaries that were blessed. You weren't allowed to throw them away (because they were "blessed") What does that mean?

  1. A blessing is just words. Nothing but the mental, emotion and physical actions can determine whether a person is "good/holy".

If someone sneezes, simply say "may health be upon you".

  2. As someone who isn't religious I see a blessing as nothing more than wishing someone well (or luck).  Saying someone is blessed is noting they have done well or have been lucky.

If someone wishes me well then perhaps it will improve my spirits and have a positive effect, but I don't see any blessing as invoking any sort of supernatural powers.  This brings to light the idea that in my opinion spells do nothing to anyone who isn't aware of the fact one has been cast.  It's the power of suggestion that gives spells (or blessed items) any influence.

The religious significance of something that has been blessed is really not much more than a superstitious belief that something which has had an arbitrary set of words said in its direction has additional powers because of it.  In that way it's not much more than a lucky charm.

  3. Yes, many blessings are nothing more than a spell. Spells are not evil only the intent in which a spell is cast can make it good or evil.

There is more than one spiritual path goodness is in all spiritual paths.

  4. NO HEK NO

  5. i think holy is sacred.. i dont think a blessing is like a spell.. i think its more like being given a gift.. a sacred one..i had to ask my mum for help on this one.. she said its a heartfelt wish for the wellbeing of another..

  6. Normally 'blessed' things are given best luck or special attributes by a superior being. So, it depends on the "God", what does a blessing mean. It may make plants grow faster, or bring good luck to a person. Depends ^^.

  7. WOW, what a great question. First, a blessing is not a spell of any sort, good or bad. Blessings are the overflow of what God has given us..  It may be love, peace patience or maybe our time.  Blessings can also be in material items, money cars any gifts.  GOD blesses people with many things in many different ways, but the blessings given are always to be used to bless others, . This does not mean you should give everything away, but if you have been excessively by GOD in any way,it was not for you to keep all for yourself.  The Bible says "All good things come from GOD"   To be HOLY is to be without sin, Only GOD is holy

  8. a blessing is an intention, and according to evidence shown within quantum physics, it's very powerful. on its surroundings.. If you've ever watched "What the Bleep," you'll know a little about this.. they did tests with water bottles and negative and positive labels, and the results were amazing.. One was  tested with the blessing of  a buddhist monk, which turned the molecules into beautiful crystals. Another was yelled at with an "I hate you!" and the molecules  actually turned partly yellow and looked like mud.. So blessings/intentions can be extremely powerful..  Check up on the water tests, they're really amazing.

  9. hi denie

i like what psi, said specially the part, " a blessing can not make a person holy, only good acts and a sincere heart has this ability.....i read it last night, but was to tired to answer, nicely said psi........

  10. I would say that most spells are more like prayers (some to good and some to not good beings depending on your point of view).

However,  blessing for healing (Rite of Unction) is no different in intent than a Spell for healing (the deities prayed to may be different).

A blessing focuses the goodwill of God or Gods (whoever one believes that to be) upon a person or object. This is sometimes done by specific people (priest, etc.) or by specific rites (which some can be performed by non priest).

In some religious beliefs it can make some things holy for instance Holy water is simply blessed water. Silver because of it's purity when blessed (in say the form of a cross) can be considered made holy. However, a pentagram (even a silver one) blessed by a Catholic priest that is worn by a Satanist would not be considered a holy object.

No, a blessing can not make a person holy in any religious faith only good acts and a sincere heart has this ability.

Expelling evil (demons) is the Rite of Exorcism (not blessings) and all people at all times have the right to choose acts that others consider evil but most religions do not believe that evil is a microbe or bacteria thing living inside you.

I have no idea what particular faith would teach not throwing away blessed items. Even the Catholic church stops using buildings as churches on a regular basis.

  11. Not even close A blessing is from God and spells are from Satan.

  12. no

  13. My name Mi mean Beautiful, Yuki mean Blessing in Japanese. Blessing can be have fine child, my parents want that, name me Beautiful Blessing. Spell may be bad, blessing always good.

  14. I think they are both hokus-pokus, but one (a blessing) is intended for good, can be directed at a thing, or at a person, and if it's directed at a person, the idea is that the outcome of the blessing is good and "intentional" on the person's part. The other (spell) is often intended for ill, or at least to force the person under the spell to do something they would not ordinarily do, so therefore it's "not intentional" on that person's part.
