  1. I wouldn't give a truck to a 16 year old.

Perhaps a mid 80s- early 90s Corolla, Tercel, or Mr2 turbo.

Since the gas prices are so high, and that the gas will be under your expense and not their own (or maybe it is?), i would suggest an 86 Corolla or a 91 Mr2 Turbo.

I own an 86 Tercel that has great mileage. Despite the modifications ive done for racing, it still get 40-50 highway mpg even though i have a heavy foot.

But if you must get a truck i suggest a Ford Ranger, they are great because of all the extra bed space as well as its extended cab and V6 engine. At $14,000 starting MSRP, it get about 23-27 highway mpg. Compared to the S10 you save a couple grand.

    Hope this info helped!

  2. S-10s are great trucks for 16 year olds and I recommend them above any other car (not a big car fan). With those miles I'd look for that truck to last a pretty good time and with V6 you get some fair gas mileage. I'd get the S-10

  3. I would get a Tundra (Toyota). my good friend has one that runs like new with 200,000+ miles on it. good truck to have until you graduate college in about 8 yrs.
