I'm about to turn 16 and am really looking forward to getting my first car. like a lot of old fashioned parents, mine are making me pay for my own =/ I'm planning to be able to raise about 5,000 maximum. Since i am a teenage girl i want a car that looks pretty good. I was thinking about a VW jetta but then i saw the 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertable. It's absolutely gorgeous and i saw a couple used ones for around 5,000. Are these good cars to have and do they get good gas mileage? has anyone had experience with these? and is that price a little to good to be true for a car that looks as good as those do? i would really appreciate the help. thnx =D

  2. no they are not very reliable.

    avoid 01 thru 05's

Chryslers in gerneral are not that great but the sebring is prone to need more repairs than others

    99 mazda miata $6 to $8,000

  3. While I cringe at the thought not buying American, the truth is for a first car you would be better off getting something like the Honda Civic, or the Toyota Corolla.  I believe that both of those are made in the United States anyway.  They both are much higher quality, hold their value better, and get better gas mileage than the Sebring.  You may have to look a few years back to spend $5000, but it would definitely be a better choice.  The Sebring is that cheap because that is all it is worth.

Check out a car website in any case before you buy, such as this one:

    http://autos.msn.com/

Or definitely invest in the Consumer Reports car buyers guide.

  4. No. Chryslers tend to have a problem with the temperature sensor. This means that if the temperature sensor goes out, so does the engine if you don't find out till too late. For a good starting car, i would go with a Chevrolet Cavalier. They get excellent gas mileage, will run forever, and cost about $5000 dollars, depending on what year you get. Plus, insurance on you and the car will go up, purely because the car is a convertible, and does not protect as well in the event of a rollover. I have had experience with these cars, and they are alright for a certain amount of time. If you plan to have a car for more than 200,000 miles, I would start thinking about something else. But of course, the choice is all yours.

  5. Just make sure it comes with a bus pass.  You'll need it.

  6. Do your own research.  Get to the library and learn for yourself. Once a year Consumer Reports publishes repair ratings going back 5 years on every car manufactured both domestic and foreign.  It's a quick and easy tool.

In regards to the Chrysler........they look cool but are expensive to keep.............

    Good Hunting

  7. i love that car. i drive it every ******* day i can... get it get it
