Question:

Is a Honda C90 ('Cub') a good beginner's bike?

I mean someone who is looking for their first ever machine on two wheels?

I want a Vespa but thought that, as they are cheap and plentiful, a Honda C90 might be a good idea for a year or so until I'm confident enough to shell out £3000 on a Vespa!

Are C90 scooters twist-and-go? Also are they proper scooters or do they have pedals as well as an engine?

Cheers!

  1. I had one as my first bike and it was great. Its ideal to get used to the road hence they sold loads!

Uses a 4 gear semi clutch ( no clutch lever to operate ).

They are a good work horse. Not suitable for the bike test though.

  2. Aye, C90s have a centrifugal clutch but gear-change is manual. They don't have pedals like the old mopeds. They've quite a tough little 90cc motor actually.

Personally, I'd suggest going for something with a manual clutch, particularly if you're going to go on to ride bigger, better machines. In the long run you'll find a bike with a clutch easier to ride. Well that's my experience anyway.

Have a go on a few first and go with what feels good to you.

  3. fantastic 1st bike! it has gears on a centrifugal clutch so at least you can learn to appreciate what gears do on a bike, there are millions of them so crash it every day and parts are pennys.

you will get pegs down on roundabouts (sheets of sparks! lol )

if you stand on the back seat in 1st or 2nd it will wheelie until you run out of petrol!!!

if you get a bit bored hondas MT5 has the same size fork headstock so you can make a crosser!!

    awesome bike laff a minute

wear good gloves tho even at 20 mph hand skin comes off

  4. I started with one of these awesome little bikes! They have an automatic clutch and are quite nippy.
