Question:

Is a Honda Helix suitable for long distance riding?

I'm considering a 2007 Honda Helix. It seems like it would be great for riding locally and on short rides, but how is it on long trips?

For example, is it suitable for trips of a few hundred miles? Would it be a poor choice to take on cross-country trips?

Thanks!

  1. I agree with Motoman - it wouldn't be that bad as long as you take the side roads..

But seeing as how I've tried to drive mine on the highway once, I found it tends to be heavily influenced by cross-winds.

I assume it's because of all the plastic housing..

  2. 15 miles ok, 75 miles no; 200 miles not a chance. The Suzuki Burgmann 650 is suitable for cross country touring but the last one I looked at with fancy paint and upgrades would be 10K out the door. You can buy a heck of a cycle for $10,000.

  3. In today's world a 250 would seem too small for 100 - 200 miles days.  From WW II well into the 60s people regularly rode 250s on long trips.  The difference between then and now is the improved high speed roadways.

A 250 will not holdup to prolonged high speed travel.  However if you stayed on secondary roads and didn't go over 55 mph the Helix can be ridden on long trips.
