Is a Hormel container of bacon bits considered a jar, a container, or something else?

The container is long, made of glass, has a s***w-on top, but is thin and small.

  1. It is certainly either a jar or a bottle.  The determining factor is the proportion of the width of the opening to the width of the container.  I don't know what the minimum proportions are for it to be called a jar, or even if there is a set rule.

    If I remember correctly the opening of this container is half or more the size of the container, so I would have to call it a jar.


  2. If the opening is smaller than the body, usually it is a bottle (bottle-neck).  If the body and the opening is the same size and the middle goes in, we call that a 'carafe', usually for wine. If the opening is the same or about the same size as the body, usually it's a jar.
