Why not build a still and make ethanol/methanol, thereby getting infinite 'gas' mileage!

It won't help.  The physics are bogus: though the device does indeed make a small amount of hydrogen and oxygen to burn in the engine, the energy to dissociate the water comes from your engine through the alternator belt.  It requires more energy to split the water than you get back in energy from burning the hydrogen.  

Fill the tires hard, drive slower, drive less.  That'll help.
