Is a IsoFix car base compulsory for a baby seat

Hi,

I have a Britax rear-facing baby car seat for my 6 month old.

I use my car seat belt to secure it in rear-seat.

Recently a friend told me that Isofix/any other car base is COMPULSORY as per UK law to be used with baby car seat.

Is that correct?? I could not find any law-site etc to confirm this. Do you folks have any idea.

Many thanks

RK

  1. Errrrrrrr i hope not otherwise I have been breaking the law for the past 11 months!!!

As far as I'm aware, as long as the car seat is fixed as suggested by the manufacturer and conforms to current safety regs there is not a problem. The idea of isofix is that it is quick and easy, and universal fixing device making ur life easier!

  2. Try this site it may help you and good luck...

    http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/

  3. bought a new seat last weekend isofix is just alot easier to put in the car,as long as the seat is fixed in place as recommended by the maker its ok and safe to use

  4. i do not think it is compulsory or they wouldn't seel ones with out it, my kids seats are not isofix, although the cars support it.

  5. no.

it is a newish thing, fitted to new cars.

any car older than a couple of years won't have isofix anyway.

check out the mothercare website, they are pretty good

as long as your seat has been designed for the belt, it will be fine.

most seats are now designed for belt and isofix so you can use whatever is in your car
