  1. If you're looking at an XLT from the last few years, then yes, it's an excellent ride.  I wouldn't hesitate a bit to get one, and Jamis had some great parts spec on those.

I had a friend with one and in the first six months he snapped the right chainstay just behind the crank.  *However*...this guy was an animal and a serious pedal-masher (at his level of mashing, it's considered bike abuse!)....he was also known for throwing rocks at his bikes and hitting them with logs (and/or throwing the whole bike into the woods) when he couldn't clean a section.   Seriously.   So, the rest of us will love the XLT for the great bike it is.   lol.   :o)

I've had two Jamis frames and am currently abusing the heck out of a Komodo rigged up for urban mayhem and it's been fantastic.  If you find a good deal on the XLT, don't hesitate.  Always shop around and try different bikes, but you won't go wrong with Jamis.

(ps, Jamis was great about replacing his frame, dents and all)

  2. It is an excellent bike, if you want to do cross country riding. That means you don't want to do big jumps a lot. It is an excellent bike for general riding around and is very versatile. It comes with a good parts group and is a good value.

Keep it in the big ring.

  3. jamis has been around and they know what they are doing. the dakar xlt is a very cool and reliable bike

  4. Jamis makes a very good bike for the dollar spent. One of my older bikes is a Dakar Expert and I still enjoy riding it and will likely hang on to it for a long time.

  5. Yep, thats a good heap for most riders.
