i have decided on getting a jenday conure but am not sure how good they are as pets because everyone seems to have a sun instead. are they good pets? the only problem im having with them is the high high price. i have saved up $400 for the cage and supplies but the bird itself is $600. cant find any lower price. the baby will be ready in two months but my parents havent confirmed it yet. i dont know if i should get something like a quaker because their price tag is much lower... any ideas?

  1. Any of the conures make nice pets.  People buy the sun because they are very pretty.  I had a nanday conure and he was an awesome bird.  Only problem with conures is they are soooo noisy but if noise isn't an issue i'd get whichever you can afford to get.

  2. Suns and jenday conures are closely related (hence the crossbred "Sunday" conures) and there is little difference in pet quality.  Which birds are most common in aviculture has more to do with vagaries of history and how easy they are to breed and sell, rather than their pet quality.

Compared to a quaker, a jenday will be more colorful and louder.  They can both make excellent pets.  I can't tell you whether a jenday is worth the extra money - that's a personal decision.  However, if you're in the U.S., $600 seems a bit high.  I don't know where you are, but jendays are only $350 at http://www.birdfarm.com/sale/jenday-conu...

(about which I know nothing except what I saw on their webpage).
