  1. well to Telll the truth according to pet stores parakeets/budgies are a good starter bird they are easy to take care of but lovebirds are great birds and very social parakeets are good starter birds but not very social and rareley hand fed

  2. Depending on the age......yes.  You dont wanna get it too old, but you dont wanna get it too young either.  Young love birds are difficult to take care of and often die.  Love birds are better in pairs.  Ideally, get two ages 6months-2years.

Cockatilles are excellent birds for first time pet owners.  Both lovebirds and cockatilles require huge amounts of attention.

  3. my sister had a love bird and the feathery basterd didnt love her. keep that in mind

  4. Lovebirds come in pairs. They are cute, clean, easy to maintain, and very friendly.... but extremely noisy.

One bird will squawk, then the other will squawk a little louder, then the other, then the other, and so on.

I used to have a pair, but one died after 7 yrs. The other (female) is still alive and she's now 17 yrs old. She is very nasty now (although never used to be), and it is impossible to feed her without her trying to bite our hands. We have to pour the food in the bowl as quickly as possible. She outlived my dog.

In general, they are a big committment.

  5. uh yeah, sure if you want a lovebird though, they most of the time come in pairs, so if you want two birds, then yeah.. personally as a first bird I would prefer a Budgie, a smaller version of a Parakeet, or even a canary! My seven year old brother has a budgie named Freddie, and he is so easy to take care of! I also have a budgie, who is blue, unlike freddie who is green, and his name is T-Bird. He is the greatest! he is so easy to train, and ive had him for two years, and he is one happy bird! they both are! They sing, and wont stop screeching until i turn their Hawaiian Music on! lol.

  6. if you get as a adult bird there are going to be super loud and bit you don't even come near u

  7. yea they are just dont get a pair they'll like achother and hate you

  8. No. The best bird to get is a Cockatiels. These bird is awesome. You can train it and everything. I had on and I'm planning on getting another one.

  9. lovebirds are great birds, so are budgies check out  http://www.parrotcentral.net/parakeets.h... for budgie info and http://www.parrotcentral.net/lovebirds.h... for good lovebird info, goodluck!

  10. Love birds do not always come in pairs. If you want a hand tame love bird I suggest finding a breeder in your own area who hand feeds theirs to make pets out of them, then go buy one from them who is already hand tamed. And remember love birds are like the pit bull dogs of bird breeds once you get a mean one you keep a mean one. And one who is not tamed will be mean when you try to handle it.

  11. A lovebird is a good first bird IF you purchase a hand-fed and *socialized* baby.  This means a bird that has been handled, cuddled and played with  several times a day by the breeder.  Lovebirds need to be handled daily to remain tame so you'll need to commit to doing that.  Also, it is a myth that lovebirds must live in pairs to be happy.  If you purchase a pair of lovebirds they will bond to one another and NOT bond with you.  However if you purchase only one lovebird, it will bond with you if you spend time with it daily.

Other good first birds are cockatiels and budgies but they should also be purchased as hand-fed and socialized youngsters.  Parrotlets are marvelous little birds as well but because they are typically big birds in little bodies (and with big attitudes) they generally don't do well with young children unless the children are closely supervised.
